Bitshark™ Express RX

The Bitshark™ Express RX is a broadband, high performance single tuner RF receiver card that provides a PCI Express x1 interface allowing transfer speeds up to 2.5 Gb/sec. It supports a tuning range between 300 MHz and 4 GHz and user-defined channel bandwidths up to 50 MHz. Digitized baseband I/Q samples are provided by dual A/D converters, and are accessible to the PCIe host or on board Xilinx® Spartan®-6 LX45T FPGA.

The Bitshark™ Express RX is targeted at commercial wireless radio applications including software defined radio (SDR) and cognitive radio (CR). A wide range of frequency bands are supported:
• GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
• iDEN (800 MHz)
• CDMA2K/EVDO (450/800/1900/2100 MHz)
• UMTS (Bands I-XIV)
• TD-SCDMA (1.9/2.0/2.4 GHz)

Reference Design

Reference Design

To enable evaluation and integration of the Bitshark™ Express RX card with the PCIe interface, an example spectrum analyzer application is delivered with the Express RX. This consists of an FPGA reference bitstream and a cross-platform PC-based spectrum analyzer application for displaying data received from the Express RX card.

Also included with the Bitshark™ Express RX is a Linux-based software library that provides an easy-to-use interface for both configuration and sample acquisition from the Bitshark™ FMC-1RX card over the PCIe bus.

FPGA Reference Design

Features of the FPGA Reference Design:

  • A/D high-speed data interface (LVDS synchronization / deserialization)
  • SPI-based interface for A/D control (writing to A/D internal registers)
  • DC offset correction block
  • I/Q imbalance correction block

The Bitshark™ Express RX Development Kit (Bitshark™ Express-RX-DVK) comes with the Verilog source code (with unlimited use license) for the FPGA reference design described above.

Spectrum Analyzer

Features of the PC-based spectrum analyzer:

  • Control of FMC-1RX configuration (RF center freq, RF gain, baseband gain, baseband filter bandwidth, A/D sample rate)
  • Display of time domain plot
  • Display of frequency domain plot
  • Display of I vs Q plot
  • Compatible with multiple host operating systems

The Bitshark™ Express RX Development Kit (Bitshark™ Express-RX-DVK) comes with the Java source code (with unlimited use license) for the Spectrum Analyzer application described above.
